CS Gallery Manager (alfa)

Updated: 7-31-2007

CS Gallery Manager is an application for Community Server 2007

FEATURES:

  • Upload a bunch of files at one time
    • Option to resize the images before sending them to adjust to a given maximum size, very useful with photos from cameras that are too large.
  • Manage the existing files on the galleries you have access to.
  • Create and delete albums/categories.
  • Update the names and descriptions of the images.

INSTALLATION (read before download):

If you have a Community Server installation and have access to its folders, you can make use of this tool Smile.

Part 1: The new Gallery Service:

Your Community Server installation has a Gallery Service that provides a basic set of methods to retrieve information about the galleries contained on it. This web service could not be used with CS Gallery Manager since it needs advanced functions that the default installation doesn't have. This is why a custom web service is included with CS Gallery Manager: the Extended Gallery Service.

Part 2: The Application itself:

CS Gallery Manager comes in a Windows Installation Package file (*.msi). This is the client-side application and runs on (every?) Windows system (requires .NET Framework 2.0+). This is the application that really manages the galleries, connecting to the server or servers where you installed the included Extender Gallery Manager.

DOWNLOAD:

You can download CS Gallery Manager in a compressed file that also contains the Extended Gallery Service. It's all that you need for it to work.

This file can be downloaded clicking the button that says "Descargar" or this link: http://www.superjmn.com/files/folders/3345/download.aspx

Known problems:

  • When adding a new category, you have to manually choose its parent.
  • The tag selector works but it is not very elegant at the moment.
  • It's not possible to edit categories.

Thanks to Dave Burke and Duncan Menzies for their help. Without you, the Extended Gallery Service wouldn't have been possible.

Shake, I'm afraid this problem only works with older versions. Now they don't use a SOAP service, but a REST one. I'm waiting for them to release a more compatible API to develop a similar application. For the moment, you can manage your galleries with the application by nb Development (Nick) CS Gallery Manager, but it's for Windows desktops only. Sorry :( Thanks for your interest!!

Jose, I think nicks is only for 2008...I am running 2007.1 sp1 i dont think they changed to REST at that point...in any case if you are no longer developing this can i get your source...i need to get a gallery manager going for my site else i might go mad...

I lost the code due to a hard disk failure :( That one of the reasons why I stopped the development of the app. I can only provide you with the source code of the Extended Gallery Service. Do you want it?
